Textures are an important source of inspiration for textile designers. They can inform the decisions we make regarding fibre selection, woven construction, pattern content, finishing techniques and much much more! For example, I will explain some points about how this seemingly plain image here is full of information:-

Flecked or twisted woollen yarns would recreate the colour palette, picking up on the rusty feature tones amongst the varying depths of grey.

The different sizes of stone inform the designer about the size of pattern they should use within their designs.

Bobbles could be utilised within the fabric to give raised areas.

There are so many other points I could list but these few give you an idea of the kind of things I was looking at.
